Rubbings of Steles from the Synagogue in Kaifeng
Three steles were erected in the courtyard of the synagogue in Kaifeng. Two of them still exist and are held at the Kaifeng Museum, China. One stele contains two inscriptions: one dated 1489 on the front, and one dated 1512 on the back. The other stele contains only one inscription dated 1679. The third stele that contains the 1663 inscription is now missing. The ink rubbing of the original stone was discovered amongst the Jesuit records in Europe by P. Brucker, S.J., who sent it to P. Tobar, and now is said to be held at the library of the Bibliotheca Zi-Ka-Wei (Bibliotheque de Mission), Shanghai, China.
